Families dysfunctionality in Romeo and Juliet The Montagues and Capulets have had hate for each other for a very long time and this is why these two families are so dysfunctional. Romeo and Juliet come from two different families, the Montagues, and Capulets. Both families hate each other without a doubt and they can’t seem to get enough of one another. Whenever they see each other, there always seems to be a problem between the two families. They can’t resolve their issues by talking it out and there’s always a fight that has to break out on the streets of Verona. It has gotten so bad that whenever they see each other on the streets there is a quarrel of some kind. In the book, Romeo is trying to create peace with Tybalt but Tybalt refuses to create peace and decides to do the unthinkable. Tybalt thinks its a good idea to start yet another fight and stabs Mercutio while Romeo was trying to seperate the two. To make matters even worse, Romeo wants revenge on Tybalt, and comes back and kills him. This was a bad idea because Tybalt would have gotten the death penalty and Romeo would have not received any punishment. But since Romeo couldn’t control his emotions he has been banished from Verona for killing Tybalt. While Benvolio was getting interviewed he says “Tybalt here slain, whom Romeo’s hand did slay. Romeo, that spoke him fair, bade him bethink. How nice the quarrel was and urged withal. Your high displeasure. All this uttered With gentle breath, calm look, knees humbly bowed”(3.1.114-119). Tybalt refused to accept what Romeo had to say and this is the reason everything happened, they could have gone their separate ways, but Tybalt had to fight Mercutio, eventually killing him.
