EBP Analysis Paper Evidence through research supports how policies and change can be implemented in the nursing practice. Utilizing nursing theories as supportive evidence, provides a greater understanding on how a policy and change is connected to the foundations of nursing. Drawing back to the literature review for the policy, implements evidence from research that build context of how the policy can be applied to the nursing practice. The literature review provides implication of how research can be applicable to the approach of implementing a nursing policy. Through the research, understanding the meaning of the evidence in practice is vital and providing recommendations of how the research is a reliable source for change in practice. …show more content…
It’s important that patient receive an equal amount of care among the patients a nurse is caring for. The first applicable theory to the issue is the caring theory. This theory by Jean Watson, emphasizes the importance of caring to promote the patient’s well-being and fulfilling the humanistic needs of the patient (Petiprin, Jean Watson Nursing Theory, 2016). Care from the nurse is an essential factor to patient care prioritization. Prioritization of patient care, correlates to the caring theory as it is promoting the improvement of nursing care for patients. The next applicable theory, is the Goal Attainment Theory by the theories Imogene King (Petiprin, Goal Attainment, 2016). As indicated in the title of the theory, King emphasizes having a goal to reach. King’s theory applies to the issue, as implementing an acuity tool sets a goal on caring for patients by meeting their needs through prioritizing patient …show more content…
Making a patient comfortable or achieving comfort as an outcome, is a goal in nursing care. As indicated in Winters & Neville (2012), increased workloads affect the nurse’s ability to complete patient cares. This indication demonstrates how, if patient cares aren’t completed, patient outcomes of comfort won’t be met. Therefore, when patient assignments are completed by acuity, the workload is allotted among nurses equally (Thomasos et al., 2015). In other words, basing patient care by acuity can minimize the workload of the nurse, allowing the ability to focus their cares to meet the patient comfort. The Comfort Theory is utilized in all patient cares as the more that’s known about a patient, the better the outcomes will be for them. In addition, classifying patient acuity equalizes patient demands and nursing care to provide care based on the patient’s needs (Andrade et al., 2017). In short, the theory ties into this as when patient needs are met, patient comfort will be the ultimate
