People deal with emotions in very different ways after death and handle it in very different ways emotionally and physically. This image is used in Hamlet by William Shakespeare; they show this through the shift of emotion between characters throughout the play, by showing how they handle grief and trauma. Shakesphere uses Hamlet and Ophelia to show shifts in emotion after life events that really take a toll on one's mental health, which makes them watch a different way. In Act III scene IV Hamlet's character has a switch in demeanor. This is best shown when Ophelia starts to ramble on about flowers. “There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember.And there is pansies that's for thoughts.” (Hamlet.IV.V 175-176) All 3 of the films try to display Ophelia's madness, but the version that best fits Shakespeare's intent is the Ethan Hawke version. This version shows Ophelia actually upset to the point of screaming and yelling. When Ophelia is talking about flowers and remembrance, she has photographs. The photos are the best representation of remembrance in a way that is a way for her to always remember her father. During this scene, we see Ophelia literally melting into Larates arms, this helps show the intent by showing how truly upset she is about her fathers death, and that she's not crazy she just needs time to grief. A version that did not do as well of showing this is the Branagh version. In the Branagh version Ophelia was talking about the flowers, but there was nothing there making her seem delusional, this did not fit well because the setting and context just don't fit with the character
