Jay gatsby's resents tom Buchanan because of him marrying Jays one true love Daisy. gatsby has been in love with daisy since the day he met her. When Gatsby went to war, daisy had a lack of affection and even though she loved him, she ended up marrying tom. (pg 64)” Gatsby tries everything he possibly can to get daisy back through his money, luxurious home, the parties he throws everything he does, buys or puts together is all for daisy. Even though tom and daisy are married tom is cheating on her with myrtle wilson. there are parts in the book where myrtle feels jealousy towards tom's wife because she wants to be his only lover. she is from lower class she evies what they have, which is why she found tom because he is her dream man. Daisy will do anything for material wealth ex: break rules, and takes no responsibility for her action (myrtle wilson's death). Even though her husband Tom, treats her like shit, she is more amused with the fact of old money this way she would be rich for her whole life. Daisy is in love with gatsby but he went away to war. "Take 'em down-stairs and give 'em back to whoever they belong to. Tell 'em all Daisy's change' her mind. Say: 'Daisy's change' her mine!'" Tom basically bought Daisy for a wife with a 350,000 pearl necklace even though Daisy wanted to change her mind with the letter jay sent her; the night before the wedding, Tom said it was because she was drunk. Although Jay seems to be greedy he only illegally sells bonds for Daisy to impress his one true love.
