Being able to have dozens of people controlled into a defined system is being able to call your society civilized. At times the established government does not provide for the people the way they want to be taken care of. This could cause uprisings against the established form of control creating the need to ask for a better and improved government. The question remains: what type of government is considered ‘perfect’ to its citizens. A government with key elements from both capitalism and socialism would greatly benefit the people. This government would support its people in times of danger but would also allow people to make their own mistakes and learn from them how to not do them again. There is no surprise in his day and it is reigned by predictability and fear. “When the bell rings, we all arise from our beds… We eat our breakfast in the dining hall where there are five long tables with twenty clay plates and twenty clay cups on each table.” This fragment of the novel lets us live through the dullness of what is known as Equality’s everyday morning routine. Because of his restrictive government he does not get the freedom of choice we have. This is how revolts start; through the deprivation of basic human rights. As Winston Churchill once said, “No socialist system can be established without a political police.” Equality learned this when he narrated for us what happened after he was humiliated when he presented his light to the council. “This thing must be destroyed!” This ‘thing’ that the council referred to was the light project that Equality spent weeks working on and put all his hard work into. In a socialist environment, you are allowed to choose who you marry, what you believe in, and also where to work. Those type of mistakes you are allowed. Although, if we allow the government to intervene with our business and how much we produce we could be one step away from living in a dystopia where everything you do is dictated by an outside force. As the article says, one is not compensated for their good actions. This creates an idea that whatever we do does not matter and we do not acknowledge the hard work of anyone. In a perfect government, everyone will not be treated equal in terms of work. The idea of capitalism is key in this government because no one will decide for you whether you make it or not. The ability of your success will depend on how hard your work is. You will no longer see people who live of others prosper without contributing to their own success. In the book, Equality is using a descriptive language to provide us with a better idea of understanding his work mates. He describes how in his House of Street Sweepers there is a young lad that goes by the name of Union 5-3992 and has seizures once in a while. This is not something that is Union’s fault but it does show us that it alters the way he works.
