Is equality really what's best? In Harrison Bergeron The year is 2081 and the world has been equalized by the government. Everyone has to be the exact same, if you're prettier smarter or more still then they're set average you'll be handicapped, we need people with different intelligence levels appearances and talents to society can evolve

First of all, society needs different intelligence levels because humans all think differently. An example of this is when the television announcer can’t do his job properly because of his speech impediment. “ the announcer, like all announcers, had a serious speech impediment.” (pg 3). George started toying with the thought that this is unfair and maybe they shouldn't be handicapped then his handicap radio stops him with a sound blaring in his ear. “Hazel had à perfectly average intelligence, which meant she couldn't think about anything except in short bursts” (pg 1) Hazel having an “average” intelligence implies that her intelligence is what the government wants everyone to think like. I suspect they did this so nobody could realize that their world is à dystopia. Another way the government was trying to equalize everyone is by physical appearance.

Secondly, equality is not the answer for appearances. Many people are judged on their appearances, this is bad, however if everyone looks the same the world would be very boring. When the ballerinas are performing it is mentioned that some have masks, this is because they are very pretty. Meaning if you not pretty you wouldn’t have à mask which would make you feel bad
“Their faces were masked so no one, seeing à free and graceful gesture or pretty face , felt like something the cat drug in” (pg 2) Clearly this example shows that these masks are very unforthcoming. Society is better when everyone has different appearances, life would be so boring, having masks takes away the ability to be unique and stand out, and these masks make people feel
