No Equality in This Story! In Harrison Bergeron, you will find that there is no real equality within deeper meaning of the text. In Harrison Bergeron, everyone is NOT equal. In the text, it quotes “The Year was 2081 and the world was finally equal”. I thought this meant that everyone WAS equal. It turns out that only two lines down, you would find that it said that a hierarchy was formed called the Handicapper General Government.. In the story, It said that the government handicapped people which meant that they put mini earbuds that stopped the person wearing it of producing deep thoughts. In the story, the ballerinas (the dancers on tv) had to wear bird shots as well and little handicaps. This does NOT sound equal to me. Also the actual Handicapper General, Diana Moon Glampers, took civilians to jail that were above-average to society. The hierarchy known as the Handicapper General government were all hypocrites because they didn’t enforce the 211th, 212th, and 213th amendment on themselves which clearly stated that “No one could be quicker or stronger than anyone else” and “No one could be better looking than anybody else” and finally, “No one could be smarter than anyone else” as stated in the text. (211th, 212th, and 213th) Also the government was trying to be equal by taking away the power so nobody was better in any way than any person in America. I also feel that no one BUT Harrison was trying to take over because they all understood that they are under a higher power.. While Harrison was trying to help the economy, He did say he was the “emperor” which meant he was in the higher power if he succeeded to overthrow the government. I can infer that by the time i finished the story, i knew the government was just trying to protect the environment. Also, Harrison seemed like he had plans for America but they didn’t sound
