Examples Of Evolutionary Creationism

Origins: How it All Started Firstly, in order to grasp the totality of the subject of how the world’s beginning should be evaluated, the two options at hand, literal or figurative accounts of the Genesis story, must be fully explained and operationalized. For example, the belief of literal interpretation can be expanded through the idea, “that God created the heavens, the earth, and all things therein in six, successive 24-hour days” (McCabe, 2000, p. 2). This is significant because it exemplifies the idea that not only was the world created in a time frame well understood by modern man, but ultimately it leads to the concept of interpreting the entire first and second chapters literally as factual occurrences. Another popular, but contrary, …show more content…

One example of this, regarding the evolutionary creationist view, is as follows: “With the rise of modern geology, it became apparent to some that if modern man were to be able to explain the earth’s topography by the processes that he could observe, he would have to allow for an earth that has existed for millions of years” (McCabe, 2000, p.98). This statement indicates the point that through geological and topographical evidence man has found support for the age of the earth to be quite vast, and because of this portrayed support for Earth’s age being in the millions. While old earth creationism, and evolutionary creationism especially, turn to science to uphold a lot of their beliefs, young earth creationism seems to be the lowest example of strong scientific evidence. For example, it can be said that in order to keep the belief that God is solely the scientific explanation for creation, they tend to ignore that according to the Hubble Space Telescope, the ancient cosmological world described does not line up with the gigantic world of today (Schneider, 2007). This does not go as far to say that young earth creationism completely turns a blind eye to scientific evidence but might not be a belief base that rests so heavily on such things. …show more content…

For example, one problem with a non-evolutionary creationist view point is that the sun was not even created until the third day which would have distinguished day and night, so the concept of time before that was determined by different means which puts a flaw in the logic of a literal interpretation (Stump, 2017). This is just one instance that effects the view of the Genesis 1 story, but it opens the door to other inconsistencies. Another example is that the age of the earth is often determined by young earth creationism through the genealogies which is an assumption, and it is not clear that ancient Near East genealogies were meant to function this way (Stump, 2017). In addition to these two examples, there are many others such as the fossil record, the flood explanation, and so on, but ultimately the premise of this belief system makes the most sense, personally. Moreover, the idea that birds adapt their beaks due to their environment, such as Darwin’s birches, or diseases, and viruses, can change and evolve into hybrid illnesses over time, makes me believe that to an extent, biologically, evolution is alive and well. Additionally, I am swayed towards this belief system because it is hard for me to comprehend the Genesis 1 and 2 accounts in a literal sense. Honestly, I was raised young earth creationist
