Is fate real? There is evidence in fiction that people are bounded by their fate. Oedipus is an example of a work where there is a question of fate. Did the oracle truly receive a message from the gods, or was it a good guess? People often times cause events the events they have the knowledge of, by trying to avoid them. This means that when people know what is going to happen to them, the attempt to avoid it is what ends up causing it.
In the film, Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg, John Anderton was fated to kill a man called Leo Crow. When he attempted to avoid his fate by evading the police, it ended up causing him to live his fate because trying to find who Leo Crow was caused him to try to kill him. It can be argued that John did not fulfill his fate because he did not kill him but, the vision was blurry and he might have committed suicide in the vision. In the Appointment in Samarra, retold

When Oedipus was in the palace, he brought in the shepard because he was trying to prove that he was innocent. Oedipus told him, “If you won’t speak willingly we shall see if pain can make you speak.” (66). This shows that Oedipus believed that he was not guilty, so he tortured the shepherd, in the hopes that the truth would set him free. Instead the truth he spoke, further added to the evidence that he is the son of Jocasta and King Lias. With this new information it shows that Oedipus did in fact complete his prophecy as stated by the oracle at Delphi. In the film Minority Report, John Anderton talked to Iris Hineman, in search of a way to gather proof that he was not going to kill Leo Crow. He came back to Washington DC to find a the minority report, in the hope that he could avoid his fate. This is similar to Oedipus because like Oedipus, John is also seeking to prove his fate is not true. However, they both fulfilled their fate
