In a world that often idolizes perfection, it is vital to acknowledge the fact that every human is born with flaws. Flaws are a vital part of the life of humans, from the greatest minds to the common people who live among us. Making everyday people tragic heroes, Jay Gatsby being one of those people. The book The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about Jay Gatsby's and his prior lover Daisy Buchanan. In this story Gatsby is the greatest tragic hero because of his tendency to lie and his constant pursuit of Daisy. Throughout the story Gatsby's life revolves around trying to restore his relationship with Daisy, his previous love interest. He believes that by becoming wealthy and throwing extravagant parties will win Daisy's love back despite her being remarried. One of Gatsby's flaws is his inability to let go of the past. As said in the book “There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams — not through her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion”. So he decided to reinvent himself, taking on the character of Jay Gatsby. He presents himself as a rich and successful guy, despite the fact that he doesn’t come from money. Those who attend Gatsby's parties, respect and admire this new front he has put on. The contrast between his poor roots and his current situation make the front that he puts on the most tragic of the story.
