The Foils Of Romeo And Paris Did you know that Romeo and Juliet’s play was set in Verona, Italy? In the movie “Romeo and Juliet” based on the play by William Shakespeare, Romeo was caught up in love. Due to this love he gets kicked out of Verona and kills himself over his Juliet, who he prematurely believes to be dead. Romeo and Paris are foils of each other because of their maturity levels and the difference in their reasons for wanting Juliet to marry. While Romeo acts very immature, Paris acts very mature in the movie. In act 2 scene 1 Romeo escapes the party and runs/hides from his friends which was very immature. As you see in the examples, Romeo is immature and Paris is mature. When Romeo hides from his friends, he runs from his problems instead of facing them. When Romeo asks Juliet to marry him, he doesn’t ask the lord. When Juliet says no to Paris he doesn’t throw a fit, he acts mature. When Paris asks the Lord to marry Juliet, it is very respectful. This goes to show that Romeo and Paris’s maturity makes them foils. While Romeo loves Juliet for her body, Paris loves her for her money. In Act 1 Scene 5, Romeo takes Juliet behind the curtains to kiss her. In act 2 scene 2, Romeo finds Juliet at the porch and kisses her all over her body. In act 1 scene 2 Paris says Juliet's father is rich, so if he marries her they will both have a rich family. In Act 1 Scene 3, Paris thinks having babies will later lead to success in their lives. As you see in the examples, Romeo loves Juliet for her body and Paris loves her for her money. When Romeo takes Juliet behind the curtains, he lets his emotions take over. When Romeo kisses Juliet all over her body, he doesn’t think before he does. When Paris says Lord C. is rich, he is thinking about their future together.
