Ever wonder how one small thing could make a big difference? A Sound Of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction story about a man named Eckels. He hires a time machine company to take him to the dinosaur age to hunt. Eckles was a brave, strong man but he finally met his match. By seeing a huge dinosaur, Eckles ran off the path and changed history. In the story, one main theme is that even the smallest things can make a huge difference. Bradbury uses literary devices to support the theme throughout his story.

To begin with, Bradbury uses foreshadowing to help explain how careful Time Safari has to be when going into the past. The path they laid “floats six inches above the earth. Doesn’t touch so much as one glass blade, flower, or tree. It’s an antigravity metal. Its purpose is to keep you from touching this world of the past in anyway” (3). Time safari put in so many precautions and planned well ahead for the trip into the past. The path had to be so well planned so that nobody would go off the path. A hyperbole is an enormous exaggeration. By using hyperbole Bradbury help the reader be in Eckles shoes and feel how he does. Bradbury wrote “Why, Why,” Said Eckels in wonder, “It could reach up and take hold of the moon”(6). A dinosaur, no matter how big it may be can never actually take a hold of the moon. However, by saying this dinosaur could it helps the reader visualize how big and tall the dinosaur is. This helps put the reader in Eckles place which then, helps the reader understand Eckels actions. Eckles got so scared he ran off the path and changed the future. Just by Eckels running off a path the whole future change drastically. Bradbury used Literary devices to support his theme throughout the
