Foreshadowing “Desiree’s Baby” In the fictional story “Desiree’s baby” by Kate Chopin, Desiree and a guy named Armand fall in love. The two end up having a son together. Not to long after a problem occurs involving the race of the son and Desiree. This problem leads to a tragic ending.Kate Chopin foreshadows the theme of loneliness to develop a disastrous plot.
Early in the story the reader learns that love can change a person,but can change in a second when something occurs about one or the other.In a way Armand subtly hints to Desiree that something is wrong when he starts to become distant and angry. Armand was the first clue that something about Desiree was wrong. This moment becomes even more evident when Armand tells Desiree she is part black.The distance,anger, and unloving actions that Armand does to Desiree brings her to an unhappy state. Causing Desiree not to want to be here anymore.The author hint that she doesn't want to live when she figured out by saying “i shall die. I must die. Through the exchange between Armand and Desiree regarding her and their sons race one could guess it wasn't only her with black genes. Desiree not wanting to leave armand she asked if she should go in hopes he would say no. He replied saying he wanted her to go. Her thinking he still loved her and her hearing those few words broke her by stating “She turned away like one stunned by a blow, and walked slowly towards the door,hoping he would call her back.” Him not taking one glance at her and not saying anything made Desiree even more hurt than before.As if her world has came crashing on
