Romeo and Juliet Foreshadowing Essay “There was never a story more full of pain than the story of Romeo and Juliet,” -Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet is one of the most popular, tragic play written by William Shakespeare. The tragedy begins when Romeo is banished from Verona as a punishment for killing Juliet’s cousin. However, Romeo and Juliet are so in love that they cannot be separated from each other. Therefore, these two-young crosses lovers take their own life to protect their forbidden love whose deaths end the feud between their families. Shakespeare foreshadows the fate of these two young lovers that carry their imminent death throughout the play. Romeo is truthful to Friar Laurence because he can freely talk about his love and desires to Juliet. In fact, Romeo demands Friar Laurence to get them married. Also, he is the person that Romeo and Juliet run into when they desperately want to receive love from each other. Shakespeare utilizes Friar Laurence words of wisdom as he says, “[s]uch passionate Joys have violent endings” ( 2.6. 9-10) This sums up the future of Romeo and Juliet’s passionate eternal love. Moreover, it illustrates that their intense love will result in their own death. In addition, Shakespeare initiates joyful scenes between Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare incorporates implication results of their love after Romeo’s exile. Juliet visualizes that “[she’ll] bury [her] body in the earth… share a single coffin with Romeo” (3.2. 60-64). Juliet foresees that she will be able to see Romeo’s dead body the moment that they are apart from one another. Hence, she will kill herself and lie with Romeo because she cannot bear the life without him. In the same way, Romeo dreams, “[her] lady came and found her dead” (5.1 6-8). This illustrates that Friar Laurence’s plan of faking Juliet’s death and reunite the two lovers will fail. This also exhibits that they’ll see each other dead on their next encounter.
