In Act 1 of The Crucible, parts that really stood out to me was the author’s dictions and decisions to make the scene more intense and exciting. The author, Arthur Miller, decided to include many characters in the scene very suddenly without any foreshadowing. First appearances of the most characters in the book are sudden enterings into the room yelling out with emergent news of the evidence of the witchcraft in the town. One of the characters, Mary Wallen, entering the room breathlessly with yells, “What’ll we do? The village is out! I just come from the farm; the whole country’s talkin’ witchcraft! They’ll be callin’ us witches, Abby!”, affects the readers to feel that the town is in great anxiety against the witchcraft. There are so many
