Would you do anything for someone you love? Greta did in the book The Scorpian Rules, by Erin Bow. Talis is trying to make world peace by making war a personal aspect for the kings and queens who declare war. He does this by taking the ruler's children as hostages and killing them when their parents start a war. This system impacts some, because they want their children to live. But others don’t have a relationship and don’t care. Parents are only able to see their children once a year for a weekend. If they want to communicate at other times, then they have to write a letter. They constantly put themselves in peril in order to keep others alive. One example is when Gregori died to save Greta from Trovieller Burr, “Trovieller Burr shot him in the neck. The bullet clipped the side of Grego’s throat.”(Bow, 258). Even though this was devastating for some people, it had to be done. If Gregori let Greta die, Elian would die because his grandma started a war with the precepture. Later, Greta would have to lose her emotions by turning into an AI. Gregori would not have known that Greta did this, but he knew that she sacrificed herself for a better future. Regardless, he loved her enough to save her. There are multiple examples of how the power of love helps the children of peace make their decisions for others, like when Greta stands up and tells the Abbot to stop the punishment when Gregori faints from the heat in the classroom. This means that Greta had loved Gregori. She could have further been punished because of this act, but sometimes they need support from others to help
