In the society of 1984, the political standing is a religious socialism. Which in America, they are a free democracy. The parallels between 1984 and our free democracy will surprise you. The “Telescreen” that they have in 1984 is kind of the same thing as the security cameras for grocery stores and for your house. We have cameras to keep an eye on things we own so when we are not looking we can always have that extra eye on it. “Big Brother is Watching You.”(Orwell, p. 3) in that quote it is saying that The “Telescreen” is always watching you and that he knows all and sees all. The other parallels between our two worlds are them predicting that our world is going to be a religious socialism, which of course, it’s not.“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four.
