Friendship Friendship is a hard thing to find, but what can be even more difficult is finding someone who you can share a genuine friendship unconditionally. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is very heartbreaking and grievous novel that has many devastating aspects. Throughout the story, Lennie and George portray the many accurate qualities of true friendship. I have had one friendship in my life that I can more than confidently say was authentic. Without honesty, you would never know what was going on in your best friend’s life, and they would have no knowledge of what was going on in yours. George and Lennie always made promises to each other with the intent to keep them. When they were talking about their American dream Lennie said quietly, “ 'It ain 't no lie. We 're gonna do it. Gonna get a little place an ' live on the fatta the lan’’” (76). Their honesty always kept them on track to reach their goals. If they would have talked about their dream with no honesty, or no intent of actually pursuing it, it would have led to unhappiness and disappointment. Being honest with your friend is the easiest and one of the most important element of friendship there is. Being honest relieves so much drama and so many issues that can be caused by lying. My friend and I have gotten into one or two fights in our five years of friendship and those fights were both caused by lying. If we would have been straight forward with each other and told each other what was actually happening there would not have been complications in our friendship at all. Honesty saves friendships and keeps everyone on track with their goals and
