The novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger describes the narrator, Holden Caulfield, as an adolescent with many interesting views on society. The narrator has a lot of misplaced rages. When Stradlater and Holden were talking about a girl, named Jane, Stradlater went on a date with, after hearing that his friend has certain relations with this girl he got up off the bed and tried to punch him (Salinger 43). When Holden was younger he had known Jane when he was younger there was no justifiable reason for Holden to attack Stradlater. Holden dealt with the situation in a violent manner because he had built up rage from that conversation.
Charlie Gordon has taught us never to take our gifts for granted. In the story ¨Flowers for Algernon¨ by Daniel Keyes, Charlie Gordon is a 37 year old man. He is given the opportunity of a lifetime to raise his I.Q. from 68 to 200+. That is making Charlie´s I.Q. raise about three times from his original I.Q. of 68. Charlie then decides that he will have the artificial intelligence (A.I.) surgery because, Charlie believes that he will fit in and make more friends.
The novel Catcher in the Rye is pessimistic because the main character Holden Caulfield always thinks negatively about any situation that he faces. In chapter 2, when Holden is with Mr. Spencer and they are talking, Mr. Spencer wishes him “good luck”. Holden hopes that he didn’t say “good luck” because it sounds terrible. Holden becomes depressed by the fact Mr. Spencer wished him “good luck”. In chapter 7, Holden is packing up his things and says the he becomes sad when he packs up his belongings.

Most of the characters in this story are having misfortune in their own lives that leads them through adversity. Adversity comes with different types, it is not about having difficulties in life like humans daily needs but also for the troubles and problems that people are facing everyday. Like Lennie Small, George Milton, and Candy, they are the one in the story who’s facing adversity in different kind of situations.
The “American Dream” has been around since America was founded, the idea of a “self-made” man. According to Dictionary.com, the American Dream is “the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American.” The “American Dream” can never be attained by those chasing it, and it is indeed corrupt. The dream is never fulfilled. In Fitzgerald's novel, multiple characters throughout the story are left feeling embittered.

Unlike Salamander Army, Rat Army has no discipline whatsoever and the commander, who is Rose the Nose, is too laid back. Dink Meeker is one of the toon leaders of Rat Army and asks for Ender to join his toon, because he thinks Ender has potential.

Krakauer also uses rhetorical appeals to defend Chris’ rationale for his journey. Through Krakauer’s use of pathos, ethos, and logos, he persuades the audience that Chris is not foolish; however, Krakauer’s intimacy with Chris and his adventures inhibits his objectivity.
Living on the Fat of the Land Two men aspired to live the American dream. They dreamed of living on the fatta the land with livestock and other animals. There would be a few acres of farmland with a little shack, crisp air and green fields. In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck uses animals to symbolize both success, and trouble. For instance, animals brought peace to Lennie until the death of his pup devastated his chances of following his dream; tending rabbits in his future.
The characters in the novel pretend that they have their lives all figured out, but through their successes their downfalls and emptiness can be seen, to prove that money cannot buy happiness. Jay Gatsby is the newest and upcoming star in New York during the 1920’s. Through his business and inheritance he is one of the richest men of his time. One may think that his abundance of wealth would lead him to be eternally happy, but he is the opposite. Gatsby longs for his love of Daisy, which is his personal American Dream.
Wuthering Heights is a novel that revolves around the story of Heathcliff and how he turns out to be an angry character. Anger is not an emotion that happens haphazardly, it has various motives and causes which arouse one 's fury. It has been mentioned before that anger can be caused by racism, social injustice and class distinction. These are the main reasons behind Heathcliff 's anger. From the beginning, Heathcliff has been discriminated and treated as an inferior.
