“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Several people in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird display this idea found in Acts 20:35. Dictionary.com defines generosity as "readiness or liberality in giving." Those people in the book all gave valuable to bless or show thanks to someone else. Although each time someone displayed generosity they had a different motive, all of them wanted to bless another person. They all wanted to connect and show appreciation to a friend. The First Purchase Church Congregation, the Black Community, and Arthur Radley all displayed generosity, despite having different motives behind their actions. Acts like tithing can be performed out of generosity, but they can also be forced by another person. While God wants humans to give out of a generous heart, occasionally people give from a sense of duty. In the book, Arthur Radley, or Boo, gives multiple gifts to Scout and Jem in an effort to befriend them and connect with the outside world. As a person who has lived trapped in his house with only his family for most of his life, he understandably wants to try to connect with the outside world. Boo gives away many valuable or prized items that might have been valuable to him to make friends with Scout and Jem who prized all these items very highly. He also secretly gave Scout a blanket when Scout and Jem were standing outside in the cold with nothing to keep them warm while watching Miss Maudie’s house burn down. Scout does not even realize this until her father asks her where she got the blanket “Thank who?’ I asked. ‘Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the fire you didn’t know it when he put the blanket around you” (96). Boo Radley, an extremely generous person, not only gave many gifts to Scout Jem out of loneliness but also a big
