Good intentions
People can see the same situation very differently. When trying to do the right thing, sometimes from other people's perspectives, it could look like you are doing something wrong. William Shakespeare examines this in his play Romeo and Juliet by making sure the characters try to do the right thing but execute it terribly. Shakespeare uses this when Romeo kills Tybalt, Friar Lawrence gives Juliet the potion, and Balthazar tells Romeo that Juliet is dead. William Shakespeare uses good intentions in Romeo and Juliet to add conflict within the opinion of the audience.

Throughout the play, the friar always tries to do the right thing, but sometimes he needs to think about his decisions more. One of those times he had good intentions was when he married Romeo and Juliet. At this time, the friar thought that marrying Romeo and Juliet would solve their family feud, but it only made things better, but not in the way he thought it would. The friar expresses this when he says, "For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your households' rancor to pure love" (2.3. 91–92). The quote states that the marriage will make the two families turn to each other and love one another like Romeo and Juliet love each other. Another time that Friar Lawrence has good intentions is when he gives Juliet the magic potion to make her sleep for forty-eight hours. This plan did not end up working. Romeo thinks that Juleit is dead and commits suicide right before Juleit could wake up. Romeo also had good intentions during that time when he said, "Here's to my love. O true apothecary, Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss, I die. (5.3. 119-120) In this quote, he says that his dying wishes are to be with Juliet forever, and since he was dead, it was only right to commit suicide.
