Greed often leads to despair in Children Of Blood And Bone Often in literature, people's wants and differences may cause hatred towards each other. Which can often cause war. In Children Of Blood And Bone, Tomi Adeyemi uses imagery, foreshadowing, and allegory to explore the theme of how greed often leads to despair. In the book Children Of Blood And Bone, imagery is used in various different ways in order for us as readers to be in touch with the book. For example, "when Mama was around, the hut always smelled of jollof rice" (Adeyemi,1). The protagonist, Zélie says this as she remembers her mom. Her mom had been killed in front of Zélie for being a diviner. The fact that Zélie lost her mom when she was young, the olfactory Imagery of food brings back nostalgic childhood memories. This imagery also carries out throughout the book, when Zélie enters diviner camp and the smell of fried plantain and Jollof rice instantly makes her feel at home, or when Zélie embraces her mother in the afterlife she mentions her smelling like the mixtures she brewed in her Jollof rice.
