Greed is one of the most destructive forces known to mankind and it can ruin our lives. We can all learn from stories when people were greedy and had to deal with the potentially deadly consequences. This theory is displayed in the short story “The Pardoner’s” Tale written by Geoffrey Chaucer when greed literally caused the main characters to die. The Pardoner’s Tale was the better story in my opinion because the story’s plot had a nice flow to it and kept the story moving, the theme hit me harder because that’s what the focus of the story was, and the author gave some interesting ways of making inanimate objects come to life and have an effect on the plot. It’s always easier to pay attention to a story that has a better flow to it and is easier to understand the plot because we are focused on that one idea and can learn more from it. Having one theme in a story is better because it gives the story more of a chance to show how special and how important the theme truly is. For example, in the story the three rioters end up dying because they all want the gold under the tree and they plotted to kill each other. At the beginning of the story, their main goal was to find and kill Death because it took away their friend but on their journey to do so, they come by a massive pile of gold. This districts them from their mission because they all want the gold for themselves and because of this greedy thought, they all end up dying. This is when the idea of greed completely hit me because it showed me that it can do disastrous to us and it required me to think harder about it. Having one theme is better than having multiple because it focuses on one idea instead of the distraction of multiple themes like The Wife Of Bath
