Does he move on, hurt himself, or maybe he grabs some random guy off the street to tell his story? What could drive a man to confess to some guy on the side of the street but the feeling of guilt? This happens in Coleridge's poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”. We hear the story of the ancient mariner as he tells some random guy off the street. The ancient marine from Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” is a fascinating character; I mean, who just grabs a guy off the street to tell your story to, and what drives him to do so, maybe guilt, self-satisfaction, or fear. As humans are social creatures we do not do well if we are alone for a long time. It can drive people crazy or give them a fear of being alone. We see this in the mariner: he does not want to be alone so he forces people to listen to him tell his story.
