The Great Gatsby: Can Money Buy Happiness? “‘Her voice is full of money,’” (p. 127, Fitzgerald). Gatsby says this when he is talking about Daisy. This is Fitzgerald's way of saying that Daisy represents the social class and money Gatsby thinks he needs. Fitzgerald wrote many books, but one of the most popular is The Great Gatsby. In the book he criticizes the upper class of the 1920s and how they lived. This is shown through the idea that rich people do not have it all and money doesn't buy happiness. Just like Daisy’s voice sounds like money, the upper class of the 1920s was focused on money and material things, but they were not as happy as they seem. Nobody came,” (p. 182). This shows that the people only cared about Gatsby's money and not him. The only people that cared about him were Nick and Wolfshiem, but Wolfshiem cannot get caught up in the funeral business. Nick does not want any of Gatsby’s money and only attends a few of his parties, yet he is the one that cares the most. He runs around trying to find people to attend the funeral and gets his dad to
