Are the people in Fahrenheit 451 really truly content with the way they live their lives? Most of the citizens are not happy and live miserable, dull lives. On the contrary, a few of them live an ecstatic life and focus on matters that society doesn’t necessarily approve of or agree with. The novel is based on a fireman, Guy Montag, who has a desire for knowledge and finding who he truly is, in a society with citizens who live sad miserable lives and are usually living in fear. All books and literature are banned, and it is the firemen’s job to burn and destroy all that is left. True happiness can vary for each person though and can be found within each of us. Those who are truly content tend to have positive relationships with others, enjoy the little things, and find meaning in their lives. True happiness is a feeling that comes within us, it's not measured on how much someone or other people’s opinions, but it is a feeling of satisfaction that comes when we are alone the way we live our lives with our values and purpose in life. “Did you hear Beatty? Did you listen to him? He knows all the answers. He’s right. Happiness is important. Fun is everything. And yet I kept sitting there saying to myself, I’m not happy, I’m not happy.”p.62. With the advancement of technology and the usage of it becoming more and more popular, we start to notice less and less human interactions. The use of technology makes it much easier for us to connect virtually instead of face to face. This is very close to the society portrayed in Fahrenheit 451, due to everyone being so attached to it and that being the one of the main things people are focused on. Another example in today's society is Social Media, with it being so popular, more people will begin to use it, and it starts to create a whole world for people to connect with others. That can be related to Fahrenheit 451 because it starts to become the only thing that we focus on instead of sticking to what really matters most to us. “It doesn't think anything we don’t want it to think”. “That’s sad,” said Montag quietly, “because all we put into it is hunting and finding and killing. What a shame if that's all it can ever know.”p.25. The quote shows that the society in Fahrenheit 451 is very negative and good things rarely ever come out of
