The great religious teacher Buddha once said, ¨Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.¨ Hatred is a strong feeling that does not go away when paired with more hatred, it requires love to reverse it. Much Ado About Nothing is a classic play written by William Shakespeare and has influenced many pieces of literature throughout the years, including the novel Today Tonight Tomorrow written by author Rachel Solomon in July 2020. Claudio’s honor means a lot to him which is why he denied marrying Hero. On the other hand, Rowan and McNair have been battling for the valedictorian award and it all comes down to this. Rowan has been waiting all four years of high school for this moment. She has no doubt that she is going to be rewarded with valedictorian. She can finally beat McNair forever: “Without further ado, I’m thrilled to introduce your valedictorian: Neil McNair!”(Solomon 54). Neil is named valedictorian, and Rowan is let down. She thought there was no way that McNair could beat her. Rowan now knows she has one last chance to beat McNair. Win the Howl. A senior class game that brings them throughout Seattle as a farewell to the leaving senior class. As the characters are fighting for honor, hatred is another theme that is highlighted in these pieces of literature. In Much Ado About Nothing, the characters are getting ready to get married, and hatred overwhelms Claudio into making irrational decisions. Claudio just rejected Hero and he pushes her to the ground. This was a big problem because women were supposed to be presented to their husband as virgins which Claudio thought she was not. Claudio then leaves because he does not want to be near Hero because his hatred for her grew so big. In contrast, hatred is a main theme in Today Tonight Tomorrow due to the past of Rowan and Mcnair. Rowan is talking to her friend about the situation with McNair. Rowan hates McNair because when they were 14, McNair humiliated her for writing romance novels: “‘You always call him McNair, or McNightmare, or something like that.” Oh. I guess I do. I must have made the mental switch at some point without even thinking about it’”(Solomon 220). Rowan give the nickname “McNightmare” to Neil because of that day when he humiliated her when they were 14. She was humiliated so much that it comes natural for her to call him
