During the 1920’s what was the American Dream and how was it expressed in The Great Gatsby, Winter Dreams, and bernice Bobs Her Hair. (Has it changed from then til now?) The American Dream in “The Great Gatsby” is hope,and money. This relates to the themes of success and happiness. So one of the themes for the American Dream that i will be talking about is hope. Even though Daisy is married to Tom and had a baby with him. Gatsby is still hoping that she leaves Tom for him. Another quote for backing up hope is, “ Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that by year recedes before us. I eluded us then, but that’s no matter tomorrow we will run faster, stretch our arms out farther.. And then one fine morning- So we beat on, boats against the past. This is still showing that he still has hope that him and Daisy will be together. Throughout the time that he does see Daisy when she meets up with him and comes to his house and stuff, she tell him that they will announce it at lunch. That she will leave Tom and her and Gatsby live together and be with each other forever. And
