The Great Gatsby takes place in America during the 1920’s. The 1920’s were a booming time in America economically speaking. Many people obtained their fortunes during these times and their dreams. In “The Great Gatsby” the main character, Jay who is currently trying to obtain his dream. In this novel, Fitzgerald portrays the themes of love, lust, and obsession through the characters of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Bachmaun. I will explain how his dream of marrying Daisy bachmaun and that his view of the world is obstructed by his own naive idealism will be his major flaws and lead to his downfall. One of Gatsby's tragic flaws is that his view of the world is obstructed by his own naive idealism.

Gatsby grew up poor so he can make his fortune to impress Daisy. We should know that the way he made his fortune was unethically because he broke the law by bootlegging liquor. Gatsby’s love interest, Daisy Buchanan, was a materialistic woman who was married the wealthy Tom Buchanan. Daisy seemed to care nothing more than marrying a rich man. This is what leads to Jay Gatsby earning his fortune. Not for him but to win Daisy’s affection. He tries to create a new lifestyle for himself for daisy. After Jay Gatsby became a millionaire his entire life basically revolved around Daisy and trying to win her over. All that he though about was Daisy he basically had a one track mind and all of his parties were even all for her. He barely socialized at any of his parties and “the fact that he was not drinking helped to set him off from his guests” (54). Every Monday he even has “eight servants including an extra gardener toiled all day with mops and scrubbing-brushes and hammers and garden shears, repairing the ravages of the night before.” (43). The house that he lives in is even across from hers and he tells daisy that “You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock.”(159).
