Throughout the book Battle Royale characters and objects become allegories for what another life could be. The ideal is fought against by depleting bloodbath control of the citizens by thr Republic of Greater East Asia. The control the establishment had was exemplified by the constant presence and representations of the collars throughout. Some believe the story is an allegory representing the crammed school systems and the stress that is placed on the Japanese adolescents. While those both may have truth Battle Royale additionally paints the picture of American westernization and how that movement represents the downfall of Japanese youth. There are many gruesome aspects and scenes which a paper could be focused on alone. Battle Royale is attempt at painting a picture of what a blood bath life can become if you don’t follow the rules and rest of the herd of the Republic of Greater East Asia, individualism is not an option. “In Creative Edge: Emerging individualism in Japan, Kuniko Miyanaga reports a rise in ’individualism’ resulting from Western influences, contrary to the spirit of a ‘group conscience’ that characterized traditional Japanese culture.
