In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there are certain characters who are described as mockingbirds. Mockingbirds are described as innocent birds who do not cause any harm to humans. There are three characters who are innocent but they are forced or they are claimed to be not innocent. Firstly, Jem is a mockingbird, because of how racism and injustice is all around him. Jem was very disappointed and angry when they found Tom guilty, and how racist and unfair it was to claim Tom guilty, just because he was black. Jem was forced to act like a grown man by how he had to deal with racism, injustice, and poverty in Maycomb. Maycomb has made stories of how he is a monster who wonders the streets at night. He is a very nice guy as he sent gifts to Jem and Scout through the knot-hole. Arthur stabbed Bob Ewell to save them from his attack; however, he was nice enough to carry Jem to his house because Jem was badly injured. Therefore, this tells us that Arthur is a nice guy who just wants to stay away from the cruel world. Lastly, the most important mockingbird in this book is Tom Robinson, because he is judged unfairly by others as he looks different. Tom is innocent as he tried to help Mayella Ewell as he felt sorry for her, but he got blamed for something he didn’t do, which was that he raped Mayella. He didn’t rape Mayella as she was in love with him and how later on Bob Ewell said that one down about two to go. Therefore, Bob was referring to Tom and how he is dead. The two people who are left to go are Tom’s wife and Calpurnia, as they are the only two black people left in this town. Tom tried to escape as he knew that he will lose the case and he will die.This tells us that Tom was innocent and he is judged by who he is and how he looks
