Intolerance: unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from one’s own. Persecution: hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs. The Crucible by Arthur Miller shows the intolerance of people back then and relates to the intolerance of people now, and what they do to Christians. Persecution is at an all time high, between being accused of witchcraft to getting shot for your beliefs; or maybe even getting killed for another person’s intolerance. Christian persecution is still happening today and it’s at the highest point that it’s ever been. In a survey, they found that more than 7,100 Christians were killed for “faith-related reasons”. They would scream and throw tantrums claiming they saw the devil. They then accused several local women of witchcraft (History.com Staff). Abigail Williams and Betty Parris both lead 20 people to die due to claiming they were possessed by the devil. Then the accusing went on and on, from one person to another. In The Crucible John Proctor said, “Pontius Pilate! God will not let you wash your hands of this” (Miller 1309). That quote sums up that people hanged innocent people, not to mention children for non-relevant stuff, they too should not be forgiven. Same goes for the people who kill other people based on beliefs, they too should not be forgiven. Life is a God given right that no man shall be able to take. Persecution is at an all time high, between being accused of witchcraft to getting shot for your beliefs; or maybe even getting killed for other people’s intolerance. The Crucible and Christian persecution are similar because innocent people are getting killed for a non-relevant reason. People are singling out others, humiliating them and most of them ended up dying. Neither one is fair and needs to be
