I don 't think George Ellsworth from the article, "Act Of A Hero" is a hero considering that during the story he didn’t complete all the steps of the hero cycle. In the article he didn’t have a trial which is a set of challenges to test a leader or did he have a change in personality which is where the leader and the group worked together to escape. He also didn’t have a final challenge which, therefore classifies him as not a hero. Another reason he is not a hero in my perspective is when he got to the trapped children and made no attempt nor effort to try and save them, whereas he eagerly backed away from the children when he heard the sirens from the fire trucks and was relieved that "he was no longer forced to make a decision" which was
No matter who someone's hero is one thing stays the same. A hero is someone that has strived to help out of their own will. Anyone could be a hero. However not everyone is a hero. Being a hero takes courage.
In my opinion, Dorothea Dix fits my definition of a hero because she not only did something to improve the life of one person, she improved the lives of thousands, without worrying about the consequences of her actions. Most of the time, the obstacle seems to big for them to handle, but they overcome it in the end. A hero can be anyone in the world.
A hero could be anyone. Heroes don’t have to shoot lasers or be able to fly. A hero could be someone who simply shows a great act or certain character trait like bravery or courage. Heroes go through a journey containing a call to adventure, a departure and a return to their homeland. A good example of heroism and heroic acts is David from the Chrysalids and Daniel from The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. David and Daniel experienced sacrifice, hardships and bravery through their journeys of becoming a hero.

He donated lots of money to people and places and charities that needed it the most . This would be one reason why someone would think he is heroic. Many people would not really see this heroic because he was a wealthy man he had a lot more money than what he donated. Yes he did donate a good portion of his money but people

Anyone can be a hero. For instance, Robert Bentz was being selfless when he put himself between a driver of a stolen car and Bentz’ son. “In the split second of seeing the car coming straight at [his son] Roudy, Bentz cranked his steering wheel as hard as possible. That put him between the oncoming car and his son.” Though Bentz is a normal person, he was still able to save his son from injury.
Saving lives, jumping from tall buildings, and flying -- is heroic characteristics. Sammy in John Updike's story “A&P” is not a hero. I believe he is not a hero because Sammy never interacted with the girls, he quit his job to impress the girls, and they never saw his action. Sammy never interacted with the girls, his mindset was just lust and how pleasing they are. “She had on a kind of dirty-pink bathing suit and, what got me the straps were down” (Updike).

Despite being flawed, John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and Elizabeth Proctor can demonstrate their heroism in The Crucible. John Proctor is shown to be both a hero and a flawed man in regards to his lechery.
Sully is recognized as a hero because of his courageous act of successfully landing a commercial flight in the Hudson River saving many people (Boyd). An additional way that our culture defines the term hero is an object of extreme admiration and devotion (Boyd). This definition of the term hero applies to people today and one example of this kind of hero is J.K. Rowling (Boyd). She is considered a hero because of how she inspired a generation of children to read (Boyd).

A hero is someone who does a meaningful deed, worthy of remembrance and selflessly. Andrew Carnegie was a wealthy man. After he sold his steel company in 1900, he devoted the rest of his life giving money to charity. Did Andrew Carnegie’s generosity make him a hero? Andrew Carnegie was not a hero.
There are various approaches to describing a hero. There is also an infinite number of individuals who can be defined as heroes. A hero can be a person who demonstrates valor. A hero can be a champion. A hero can even save a life or even mankind.
