In Scott Fitzgeralds novel “The Great Gatsby” it gives many examples of how Jay is not so great. Everyone in New York (in the story) thinks that Jay Gatsby is wonderful and “great”, but as you read along you notice that Jay Gatsby is not all that great. He makes himself look so good in front of everyone but in reality he's not. He started out as nothing and became something big, but no one really knew besides Nick, he could see that there was nothing great. Why is Gatsby so great? The reasons why people think Gatsby is so great is because he's mysterious. All of the people in the story had so many tales about him, like how he killed a guy and he was a spy, there was just so many of the stories and the people of New York loved it, they loved how he was dangerous even though nobody really knew who he was or ever saw him. Another reason why Gatsby is great is because in a shallow world of empty pursuit of pleasure, wealth and luxury, he still has hope and real qualities of love and loyalty and daisy and Nick could see, not a lot of people could but Nick was there for it all he knew how Gatsby was. He is only great in the way that he has fooled most of the society. I think Gatsby dedicated his life to making his dreams a reality. The reason why some people would think Gatsby isn't so great is because he's kind of crazy if you ask me. The only people that don't think he's great are the people that really know him, as in Nick.
