Her understanding of justice at the beginning of the story is a rather immature and shallow view, but as she experiences more things, you can see her view getting more mature and deep. Throughout all the efforts and hardships that Starr has gone through in an attempt to achieve justice, what steps have actually been taken, and how has justice been served from Starr’s perspective? One way that justice has been served in Starr’s perspective is through exposing the truth to everyone about Khalil. Starr from the beginning of the story is silenced by people of authority and power. She was scared to tell everyone about the truth and would often have a really hard time even recalling the memories of that fateful night. But as the story continues, Starr gathers the confidence to speak against the injustices and expose the truth, bringing light to what really happened and is progressing towards justice. "Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right." In this quote, we can see the confidence and anger Starr feels from being suppressed from telling the truth. Although it is a really hard journey to tell and expose the truth, Starr eventually learns how to tell everyone the truth and set her path towards justice. Another way that justice is served from Starr’s perspective is that she and her community start protesting and rioting together in demand of justice for Khalil. These protests aren't only protests but help to represent something bigger. Through her efforts, Starr has come to rally the entire community together, letting them know that the troubles they have to face are going to be put to an end finally with their combined efforts. “I don't know what justice is anymore. Is it getting punished when you do wrong, or is it a balance of scales” In this quote, we can see Starr questioning what justice means.
