“Lack of Integrity” In The Great Gatsby Fitzgerald tells in his story how the upper class lack of integrity. The upper class in Great Gatsby just don’t care about what goes on in life other than what they think is important. The upper class think of themselves higher than the other classes because of their social status and if they have old or new money. The upper class lack carelessness, selfishness, and dishonesty. "She never loved you, do you hear?" he cried. "She only married you because i was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake but in her heart she never loved any one except me" The upper class just think because they have money they don’t have to respect others. Gatsby didn’t care about breaking up Tom and Daisy, even though they had a child he didn’t care. He only focused on what he wanted like the majority of the upper class today. Many people of the upper class become careless mostly because of money, but that’s still not an excuse to not think of how their actions can affect other people. When Daisy and Gatsby hit Myrtle with a car they didn’t even bother to stop the car. They kept going because they didn’t want to get caught and only thought in themselves. Many people in the upper class don’t care if they commit a crime, they know they can get out of it because of the almost unlimited amount of resources(money) they have. Many people get caught speeding, drinking and driving, or some other type of crime which they do not care for others safety. If they get any fines it wouldn’t matter they would have it paid off.
