In Homer’s epic, the odyssey, odysseus learns life lesson thought is many close encounters with death. These are things such as, sometimes you have to make hard choices, be humble, and resist temptation. All of wich are addressed in detail in The Odessy.
To begin, one of the lessons odysseus learn across him journey is that sometimes you have to make hard choices. This is made apparent when odysseus orders his men to approach Scylla than than Charypdis. This is shown when he says, “We must obey the orders as i gave them.” in the quote he is basicly saying, what he says goes without question of authority. This shows the weight his decisions and words on his crew and life. So odysseus advising his crew to go towards Scylla instead of Charybdis, ening in harsh consequences teaches him that in the end you will have to make hard choices. …show more content…

He demonstrates what he learns after he shows complete arrogance in his fight with the Cyclops. With, “Cyclops if any mortal man inquire how you were out to shame and blinded, tell him, Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye.”(574) this shows his utter lack of humility and instead his pride. But from his arrogance, he is struck down by karma and has to learn to be humble. This is shown when he is talking to his son and says, “No matter what I suffer, no matter if they pull me by the heels or practice shots at me to drive me out. Look on, hold down your anger.” so he is telling his son, no matter what happens don’t interfere. This is a show of his growth and demonstrates how he’s grown to be
