Unexpected Love In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, author Harper lee states "The novel is a love story plain and simple." When you hear love story generally think of lovely majestic scenery and romantic slow dancing couples, not necessarily in this novel. Lee expresses love in the story through the characters and the moral of the story basically consists of respect, admiration, and generosity which are three very reasonable examples love shown throughout the novel. In the novel, Atticus and his children, Scout and Jem have a very healthy and pleasant relationship. Atticus shows affection to the children as well as generosity. He allows the kids to do many things that most kids cannot. For example, one afternoon Dill and Jem went swimming, and when they were done they had to walk home, and they took the highway home. Dill and Jem treat each other as if brothers. They go swimming with each other, create immaculate deceiving plans together, & always help each other out when in need. The two are amazing friends to each other through out the entire book. Dill and Scout are the cutest little couple you'll ever find. Although eight and nine years old, they already have Thor futures planned out. Scout says "He asked me last summer to marry him," Dill admires her so much he already know the woman he wants to marry. Jem and Scout, though brother and sister, get along surprisingly well. They are always there for each other when in need and through their puzzling life, they stick together through it all. The novel To Kill A Mockingbird is an ironic example of love. You wouldn't expect the examples shown in the novel to be based on love.
