At the company’s inception in 2000, then Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Strigl, deliberately shaped and developed Verizon Wireless’ mission statement. He purposely ensured the mission statement not only described the reason for Verizon’s existence, but also distinctly defined its organizational values, desired culture, and exemplified how employees should interact with customers, competitors, suppliers, their communities, and team members (Verizon (USA), n.d.). “We focus outward on the customer, not inward” and “we know teamwork enables us to serve our customers better and faster” (Verizon (USA), n.d., p. 1) are two among many other declarations within the Verizon’s mission statement/credo that exemplify Verizon’s commitment to its customers

The 1999 film adaptation of a Midsummer’s Night's Dream had in many ways a lot to live up to. The same year it was released a film by the name of Shakespeare in love was receiving it’s undeserved Best Picture Oscar (more on that in another essay!) at the 71st Academy awards. It was, in my opinion, a revival of the Shakespeare genre that was lacking in cinema since the days of the Lord Laurence Olivier. But despite the film's star power, it did not live up to Shakespeare in love or Olivier’s performances but that’s not the point of this essay. The point of this essay is this; that the changes made were not an ostentatious show of the film's high budget, but required changes that made the story better and more suited for our time.
Manipulation is used in both Macbeth and La Belle Dame Sans Merci. Lady Macbeth wants Macbeth to become king and for Macbeth to kill King Duncan. She manipulates Macbeth by telling Macbeth he is not a man, if he does not kill Duncan. Macbeth kills Duncan to prove he is a man and because he wants to be king (ShakeMac 1.7.35-44). In La Belle Dame Sans Merci, the witch manipulates the knight into thinking she is a beautiful girl, who is also a good girl.
Through the use of the theme of deception through appearance, the film Some Like it Hot is a natural descendant of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. In both works, characters change their appearance to deceive others into thinking they are a completely different person. The three types of deception that occur in both stories are intentional deception, accidental deception, and self deception, all through the characters changing their appearance.
In his play, Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare has his characters participate in the practice of deception and dishonesty of others - after all, the foundation of Shakespeare’s play resides within a lie. One of the major deceptions in the play is executed by the Illyrian countess, Olivia, as she repeatedly claims to need solitude to mourn her brother’s death in order to avoid Duke Orsino and his obsession towards her. This deception contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole by adding the thematic message, deception and dishonesty is sometimes the better option when it comes to love. From the beginning of the play, Olivia is introduced as the grieving countess that has recently lost a brother.
Throughout William Shakespeare’s tragic play, King Lear, the goal of gaining control over the kingdom and boasting about one’s status drove the characters to deceive each other through the use of lies and manipulation. Right from the start, King Lear demanded that his daughter profess their love for him, causing Regan and Goneril to exaggerate their love all to flatter their father and gain the most of his land. When it was Cordelia’s turn, even though she spoke from her heart about how much her father means to her, her words did not praise her father enough as he insisted she revise her confession. Act 1 Scene 1 started the destruction of the Lear family as Regan and Goneril proved successful in gaining their father’s land by spreading lies
The theme that is the strongest one in this play is that principle is worth taking lives for. An example from the play is when Elizabeth goes to jail because Abigail has accused her of witchcraft, she is fine with going. Elizabeth knows if she sacrifices her life maybe it will save the rest of the town and friends from being hanged. The other major evidence from the play is when John tries to get Mary to tell the truth that what the girls and everything they had done is being made up. But when that falls though John confesses that he is with the devil just to have all this chaos over with.
In our world, manipulation takes place in everyday life as a natural impulse for both men and women. In Macbeth, manipulation is centralized around the mask of ambition displaying dominance over humanity. Certainly the witch’s, Lady Macbeth, and our fallen hero Macbeth become puppets of Manipulation it self. Consequently the witch’s power to influence decision-making causes the initial deterioration of Macbeth, along with Lady Macbeth’s influential desire for the throne, and thus Macbeth use of manipulation to create a new embodiment of a mask suffused in ambition for his own cruel deeds.
One of the important themes that Shakespeare shares with the reader in Twelfth Night is that unrequited love makes one ache. In a way, it is prevalent to the point that it connects each of the characters in the play. On example is that Duke Orsino starts the play by stating: If music be the food of love, play on, Give me excess of it, that surfeiting,
Shakespeare’s renowned play Twelfth Night centers around love, both in platonic and romantic instances. Characters display elements of self, brotherly, amorous, and friendly love towards one another; however, of the relationships portrayed, the strongest ones are those between men. In contrast, relationships between men and women lack depth and sincerity due to the lapse of communication between the opposing genders. Men are able to express their feelings to one another more freely, which gives their bonds strength that heterosexual relationships fail to display.
If students can relate to the play in any way it will cause an interest to study the play without getting bored too easily. The play has many universal themes that young people usually enjoy such as young love, illogical feuding, teenage rebellion, suicide, fate, infatuation, rivalry, and friendship. These themes are still used today. For example, love being the most dominant and important theme of the play will capture students attention as it the most popular theme and students can relate to their own personal experiences. The theme of rivalry and illogical feuding can bring great excitement to the audience as the Capulets and Montagues constantly have something to fight about.
Shakespeare’s depiction of Oberon’s use of deceptive love for selfish persuasion efficiently demonstrates the inherent dangers to the deceived beloved’s psyche and mental stability that emanate from using false forces. Another important form of affection-driven deception that can be found in one of these comedies is in both the spoken word and written sentiments of the plays’ respective characters. As there words as only as reliable as the recipient 's perception of their creator, they are neither intrinsically innocent and true nor malevolent and false but are subject to the intentions of their author. Shakespeare’s most obvious and in-depth example of deception via the written word is the tale of Puritan Malvolio in Twelfth Night.
