I believe the in the Crucible John Proctor is the most dynamic character in the Crucible. John Proctor is a father of the Proctor family, he doesn't attend church every sunday but only a few times a year and he states that his house is a holy house. John said to John Hale he helped build the church of Salem and put golden candles to light the church. The reason why he doesn’t attend church very often is because once you give people something they need later they're coming back for more becoming greedy. And he tells John Hale he still remember the ten commandments but leaves out adultery because he has cheated on his wife with another lady.
In the Crucible, by Arthur Miller, two of the most important characters are, Mary Warren and Reverend John Hale. The story takes place in Salem, 1692, when supposedly witchcraft ran rampant. John Hale gives us the knowledge of witchcraft and puritan beliefs, in the story, in order to decide whether someone was a witch or not, while Mary Warren assists Abigail Williams in the false accusations presented in order to alleviate the punishment they were facing for the actual practicing of witchcraft as well as dancing. In the story John Hale is intelligent while Mary Warren seems to want good, but is too nervous to take a stand on it.

Crucible Romantic Hero In Arthur Miller’s play, The Crucible, a landowner by the name of John Proctor can be described as an American Romantic Hero. Even though John does not “save” anyone inside of the play, he does try to protect the men and women who were accused of witchcraft by Abigail Williams. When someone thinks of a hero one thinks of pure and innocent, which John Proctor is not. There are more sides to a hero, none of them are perfect and innocent. Even though John does lie and commit adultery, he tries to save the men and women who were accused of doing witchcraft, including his wife Elizabeth Proctor.
Everyone has their own difficult challenges that they have to overcome. For example, John Proctor has to deal with his mistake of having an affair with Abigail Williams. Integrity, pride, and a good reputation are important to John and also to myself. I believe that I can relate to John Proctor because of the way he handles different obstacles.

Perhaps the character that connected to the audience most was John Proctor, the protagonist of the play. He reflects the mistakes that we have made in our lives, and the struggle that some of have while trying to take the blindfold off of other people. He should be considered a hero because he feels guilt, and therefore tries to make up for the fact that he once had an affair.
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is categorized as a dramatic tragedy, and all tragedies, by definition, have a tragic hero. So who is that hero? In this story, it would be John Proctor. According to Aristotle there are five characteristics of a tragic hero, he must have a flaw or error of judgement, he must cause his own downfall, he must recognize that he caused his own downfall, he must have pride, and his fate must be greater than he deserved. In this play, John Proctor has all of these characteristics.
In The Crucible, that character of John Proctor is an arrogant, stubborn man who got caught “with his hand in the cookie jar” and ended up paying the well-deserved, ultimate price for his actions. John Proctor was a man of honor and had a well respected name in the town of Salem. Sadly he died tragically but as a hero. He was hanged because he was accused of doing the devil’s work. He was given the chance to save his life if he admitted on a piece of paper that he was working with the devil but he refused to tell that lie. He wanted his sons to be able to walk the streets without being shunned from the world because they deserved better.
In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor was accused of witchcraft. John Proctor was a man of great integrity and knew he did nothing wrong. He was given the choice to confess and lie or be hung. Being the honest and stubborn man that he was, he decided his name was more important than his life. John struggled both internally and with others while trying to fight for what he thought was right.

The outrageous influenza of witch accusations spreads rapidly through the Salem community. Revenge flows through the society as neighbors turn or neighbors and jealous girls turn on wives. One character, John Proctor, is reluctant to care about anyone besides himself at first, but after witnessing the absurdity of the witch accusations, he changes his attitude and upholds the truth.
