Kolton Hinton Mrs.Slagel English 7/8A January 17, 2017 Maturity Maturity Isn?t taught, it is obtained through experiences and mistakes. Gained knowledge from good and bad experiences and mistakes are used to forge our maturity level. Throughout my book ?The Red Pony? by John Steinbeck. We are shown many times the we gain maturity through experience and mistakes. The book follows our main character Jody through his trip to maturity. In the book John shows us that Jody is just a little boy in the Salinas Valley being just another everyday boy. When one day he comes home and finds that his father went and bought a Red Pony for him, at this moment Jody realizes that he must step up and start being more mature. Jody realizes at this time that he must step up and show his dad that he is mature enough to handle another pony. Jody takes on more chores and when he does them he doesn?t complain or put little effort in (I was gonna use a phrase containing another word for half a donkey but probably not school appropriate) he does the chores at the best of his ability. Jody even takes on the role of taking care of another horse at which his father tells him that this new horse will be the mother of his little pony that night Jody lays wide awake and thinks to himself ?She?s Mine, and the colt?s going to be mine. I?m going to raise it up?. Through pregnancy Jody shows that he has matured by feeding, walking and checking on the mama horse. Time goes by and Jody has gained more knowledge and matured along the way. When it comes time and the pony is being birthed they?re some complications the Pony is turned and cant come out forcing billy buck to put the mama horse down. Jody matures at this moment and realizes that the only way for life to be, there must be death as Billy puts the horse down. Billy then delivers the pony ?There?s your colt I promised and there it is?. At this moment Jody shows his maturity by thanking Billy and realizes that Billy feels Guilty blaming himself for the lose of the Red
