Hamlet Mental Illness Why does Hamlet decide to get revenge on his Uncle Claudius? Here’s reasons why. In the story “Hamlet,” Prince Hamlet is the son of King Hamlet. Prince Hamlet has to come home to attend his father’s funeral, because his father has suddenly died. At his father’s funeral, he finds out that his mother has already moved on, and has married King Hamlet’s brother, Claudius. This makes Prince Hamlet very depressed so wants to find out the real reason why his father, King Hamlet, has passed. Prince Hamlet finds out that Uncle Claudius has killed King Hamlet so he could have the throne all to himself. The character I chose is Prince Hamlet. Hamlet has the mental illness, depression. This is because he does not live in the same place as his family, and misses them. He lives in Denmark, Germany and goes to school there. He calls the school in Denmark a “prison” which shows significance that he does not like it there and is sad. Another reason is because his father has suddenly died. What makes him more depressed is that no one knows why his death occurred and who did it.
