Revenge is the action of hurt or harm. Whether it be physical or mental it is inflicted on someone who has scarred a person's life in a way that cannot be forgiven but more so justified by revenge. With vengeance being a controversial topic itself, the truth of the issue is whether revenge is always justified or sometimes misguided. It is not a black and white thing, however, it depends on the situation at hand or if the wrong that is committed was heinous enough. For instance, in the text “Blocking the Transmission of Violence” revenge is sought out by Martin Torres over the murder of his 17 year old nephew, Emilio. Hamlet seeks vengeance for his father’s death, who is also known as Hamlet the late king. The king’s murder and betrayal by his own brother is what fuels young Hamlet’s sought for revenge. Having his suspicions young Hamlet was visited many times by his father’s ghost being asked to avenge his death, that is also when he confessed that his killer was his brother. The king had told Hamlet that he died by his brother’s hand, which is “treachery at its boldest”( Act 1 Sc 3 ), Claudius had married Hamlet's mother in order to gain power as king of Denmark. Over time young Hamlet fulfills his father desire in getting “even” and being able to right the sins he had died with with Claudius, he begins plotting against his uncle and thinking of way to avenge hi father. With knowledge of that Claudius’ followers being taking the defensive step and try to kill young Hamlet as well. In those efforts those close to Hamlet began to fall one by one before his eyes. His sister Ophelia died from what some church goers think was suicide but from what her mother reported as a accident. She was also apart of what led to young Hamlet's madness. Ophelia had betrayed him by showing the love letters to her father and returning them to young Hamlet in other words not returning his love for her. Hamlet also feels betrayed by his mother Gertrude for marrying so quickly after his father death and with that being his uncle Claudius. Hamlet proceeds to act cold towards her and even states that she is “Frailty thy name is woman” ( Act 3 Sc 4). She then too died before his eyes on another account of Claudius’ attempts to kill young Hamlet. The betrayal and death he faced had fuelled his plot to avenge his father’s death. Even through all the mishaps, revenge is still misguided in this case because Hamlet had been to indecisive. Even if he were to go along with his plans of vengeance it would
