In the last section of The Great Gatsby, situations over situations lead up to mistakes in perception. To sum up the last section---At a pit stop at an old friend at Tom's house, Tom's mistress, Myrtle, mistakes the perception of the car for Tom and Tom's's female friend; Next, Gatsby finally figures out that he's not the only man Daisy is in love with; And leading up from that, George has a mistake in perception that leads to him murdering Gatsby. All of these mistakes in perception guide the characters to consequences. This helps develop the theme because Myrtle ends up getting run over soon after that by the yellow car that she assumed was Toms which was a serious consequence she had in a mistake of her perception. This leads to another issue, While the argument between Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby, Gatsby realizes that his perception of Daisy only ever loving him was just a mistake; ¨It doesn't matter anymore. Just tell him the truth--that you never loved him-- and it's all wiped out forever.¨ He figures out that Daisy was also in love with his worst enemy; ¨¨I love you now--isn't that enough? I can't help what's past... She began to sob helplessly. ¨I did love him once--but I loved you
