Corruption of Money Most people will agree if someone has too much money it can or will corrupt them if they don’t have self control. In the book The Great Gatsby money plays a big part throughout the story and is the main theme. Out of all the downfalls Gatsby has, there’s one that stands out the most.Gatsby’s downfall is thinking money can get him anything and take him anywhere he wants. Gatsby becomes more well known to the people in West Egg by throwing parties. Nick states, “I was one of the few guest who had actually been invited. People were not invited -- they went there” (45). People that went to the party would end up talking about it afterward to their friends and they started going to the parties, so Gatsby began to be more and more well known. Through people talking Gatsby was in hopes that somehow Daisy just might show up to one of his parties.“Sometimes they came and went without having met Gatsby at all, they came for the party with simplicity of heart that was its own ticket of admission,”(45). Gatsby doesn’t really care who comes to the party and why they're there as long as they are having a good time and not causing trouble he doesn’t have a problem with them there.They only person he ever really wanted to see at his parties was Daisy but he never could get to her or invite her …show more content…

“Gatsby bought the house so that Daisy would be just across the bay,”(83). Being across from the bay Gatsby thought was good enough for him because he couldn’t actually have Daisy. “I want you and Daisy to come over to my house,” he said. “ I’d like to show her around”. Showing her around and proving that he has these fancy things, Gatsby is trying to get Daisy to love him and wants her to be with him and she doesn’t really love him.
