Societys that have a set standard that have a set standard that everyone follows, set an idea that if people follow these rules then they will be happy when actually the people are miserable with their life. In Fahrenheit 451 Bradbury reveals how montag follows every norm that society has, yet is miserable in order to suggest how societys norms contort the minds of many to think they are happy when they are not really fullfilled. Bradbury introduces montag as a guy that follows all of societys norms set forth to give the perfect life, yet his perfect life isnt perfect at all since he is miserable. Emphasizing his feeling of saddness Montags realization of his true feelings become apparent through him wearing “happiness like a mask” like a true unhappy person would do (Bradbury 9). This simile of him using happiness as a ask, brings to mind someone becoming the mask they wear. MOntags feelings of his room shines through “his open, seperate, and therefore cold bed” in a room that is not empty (Bradbury 9). This imagery of his bed is a symbol for his life. In his life he is seperated from everyone else including his wife, mildred, shows how lonely he is. Therefore his bed is seperated from his wife which reflects his life. His bed being open is like his life he is open to people and society as a whole which makes him different from everyone else because even though hes open no one will open up to him. The coldness of the room represents him being empty and not feeling truly loved in life as he is in the same room as mildred, but there is no warmth. His life is truly empty and unhappy even though he has everythingsociety has set as a need he has a wife, a bed, no books, technology, and a job but yet they dont give him fullfillment in
