My name is Delaney Trushel. I am a recent graduate from the University of South Carolina Aiken and am extremely excited to begin my athletic training journey. I received my bachelor's in exercise and sports science in just three years. During my final semester at Aiken, I was given the opportunity to intern with our athletic trainer (200+ hours). Throughout my internship, I observed different techniques, evaluations, and injuries across multiple sports. I remember asking my high school athletic trainer the route she took that resulted in her becoming a trainer. I was highly interested in her job and loved the idea of being around sports and helping athletes recover from and prevent injuries. I am continuing my basketball career here at UWF, so my time in the training room is probably not over, but I am looking forward to learning more about what it takes to become an athletic trainer. I am pursuing this degree because I want to help athletes. Throughout high school and college, I was in and out of the training room. I faced different levels of injuries and sought their guidance when I needed recovery. They inspired me to become an athletic trainer. Because of them, I have found what I am passionate about and want to pursue. My goal is to learn new information while also using my previous knowledge to earn this degree. After I complete my degree, I hope to start training at the collegiate level. Athletic trainers are heavily needed, and I saw this firsthand while interning at my past school. It is imperative to be knowledgeable about the different elements that come with this career. Specifically, the role of ethics and how different populations are often vulnerable. I believe that everyone should be treated equally, and I will act as such. Everyone and anyone should be given equal opportunities, especially in the training room. This includes one-on-one attention, explanations, conversations, etc. With that being said, there are also boundaries that need to be set. Only appropriate conversations, treatments, and other actions will take place. As a young adult, it is crucial to set this boundary.
