Not Everyone Gets What They Deserve: The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald being such a profound author, taught us many different lessons in the novel The Great Gatsby. One important lesson is people don’t always get what they deserve, it teaches us how life isn’t fair and some things in life happen that we can’t control. Some examples of this are how Tom cheated on Daisy, how Gatsby got played by Daisy, and finally when Gatsby gets murdered by George because of Tom. These are the ways F. Scott Fitzgerald shows us that not everyone gets what they deserve.
With the lesson of not everything in life is fair, Fitzgerald shows us how Toms has an affair and is cheating on Daisy. Daisy didn’t deserve to get cheated on and it's unfair how she gets treated when she didn’t do anything to cause Tom to do this. Jordan Baker tells Nick, “A week after I left in Santa Barbara Tom ran into a wagon on the Ventura road one night and ripped a front wheel off his car. The girl who was with him got into the papers too because her arms was broken ." (77) Jordan Baker is talking about Tom getting caught cheating which was just the start of him cheating more and more on Daisy. Gatsby is shot by George because George was told by Tom that Gatsby killed Myrtle. This isn’t true and was ultimately Tom's fault. Myrtle thought it was Tom in the car and since they were having an affair she thought he would stop. "The God damned coward! He didn't even stop his car." (141) said Tom, blaming Myrtle's death on Gatsby. George goes on to kill Gatsby thinking he is the reason that Myrtle is dead but it’s really Tom’s. This proves most importantly how Gatsby didn’t deserve to get murdered and it was an unfair
