Obsession, wealth, lust, and murder. These are just four of the many themes in the unfortunate story of The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby is the tale of a man's obsession with his former love and the length he goes to to try and get her back, even though she is married to another man. Out of all the myriad themes in this tale, two of the most important are wealth and obsession, which work together to prove that once people become wealthy, it is too easy for them to become obsessed with the lifestyle it provides. One of the most memorable examples of a character having an obsession with wealth comes from Gatsby’s past.
