Michel Focault is showing the reader how effective a plague can be on a group of people. There was closing of many houses, and sickness was going around which formed the leper colonies. During this time the plague was very severe and changed the lives of many people. Anyway, going back to the idea of discipline, there are two different processes. One is the functional inverse of disciplines and the other is the swarming of disciplinary mechanisms. They both began to circulate in the society in a way that was controllable for the citizens who were tangled in with the disciplinary actions. Without having some sort of method of discipline, the world would be a terrible place. The short story is showing how valuable discipline is and how an annular tower-type building can make the world of difference. By the people who were put in the panopticon, it shows what happened and how different it is today. If they did not obey the laws and rules they would be disciplined for their actions and that was how it was. It is the same as today in some ways. If you stole something from a store or was a shoplifter and you got caught, there would be consequences to your actions and wrongdoings. There is nowhere that you can run or hide or get out of it, you did the crime, you do the time. This way of being disciplined was thought of by mister Jeremy Bentham himself and without it, the world would be a hopeless wreck of a place to be. It goes to show how important inventions and means of having discipline and how it can affect other people and not just the person who committed the crime. Another example from today’s day would be how one black person was killed by a white cop because they did something wrong. It is the law, not because all of the white male cops are bloodthirsty to shoot black males, but because of the crimes they committed and the unlawful
